JAMES RUKUNDO | MEDIA RELATIONS & ENGAGEMENT

James Rukundo is the architect of earned media dominance. With a broadcaster’s cadence and a strategist’s mind, he does not simply pitch stories—he engineers narratives that dominate the global discourse. James holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies from the University of Cape Town, where he was awarded the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship, and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from INSEAD’s Fontainebleau campus in France, where he graduated on the Dean’s List. His career began on the front lines of journalism, spending seven years as a lead political correspondent for a major Pan-African broadcaster, covering everything from election violence in Zimbabwe to the Arab Spring’s ripple effects across North Africa. He then pivoted to strategic advisory, serving as the Head of Media Strategy for a global humanitarian NGO during the Ebola outbreak, where he successfully managed a complex international communications campaign that drove donor engagement up by 300%. At Pridelands, James leverages an encyclopedic address book of bureau chiefs, editors, and digital influencers to ensure that our clients’ narratives are not just heard, but amplified with nuance and urgency. He is a master of the “pre-buttal”—preemptively shaping the story before it is written—and specializes in high-stakes media training, turning even the most reserved executives into compelling, trusted spokespeople. His approach is aggressive yet diplomatic, ensuring that every interaction with the press yields a measurable strategic victory.
